Dry, Fire, or Hijama? The Three Types of Cupping Explained
When people say "cupping," they usually mean one of three things, and the differences matter.
Dry Cupping: The Gentlest Introduction
Suction only. No heat and no small cuts. A pump creates gentle suction on the skin. Many first-timers, athletes and people who feel nervous about needles start here.
Fire Cupping: The Traditional Route
A flame briefly warms the inside of a glass cup. As the air cools, it creates suction. The flame never touches you. It is only used to warm the cup. Many clients enjoy it as a relaxing, traditional experience.
Hijama: Wet Cupping
Hijama starts like dry cupping. Then the practitioner makes small, shallow scratches so the cups can draw a small amount of blood. Many Muslim clients book hijama as a Sunnah practice and as part of their wellness routine.
